Vana of the Golden Flowers

Valar (Middle-Earth) has seven queens, each of which has a different role bringing forth the beauty of Valar, but I want to explore more about Queen Vana or the “Beautiful One”. Vana is responsible of preserving the youth made for all life in Arda (Middle-Earth), therefore she is known as Vana the Ever Young. Another big factor about Vana is how her gardens are filled with golden flowers representing her love for flowers which also gives her the name of the “Queen of Flowers”. The golden flowers in her gardens are very important because it connects with her long golden hair as well as the sun of Valar. The golden flowers in Vana’s garden were water by Arein of the Maiar with bright dews from the great golden Tree Laurelin. The Golden Tree of Laurelin was a very important figure in Valar because The Golden Tree Laurelin in the south, like the Silver Tree Telperion in the north were the only light source for Valar. After they were destroyed by Melkor the fruit that were left over were used by Valar to create the sun and the moon of Valar. As this took place Vana fell in a great grief as her great beloved gold Tree Laurelin was destroyed.  She tried to bring back her beloved golden tree but no matter how much she tried to bring her beloved golden Tree Laurelin back by spilling light to the dead tree there was no use. She began to cry seeing there was nothing she could do, provoking her tear to coax forth new golden fruits that was used by Valar to construct the sun of Valar. Vana later began to feel guilt for having doubts provoking her to cut her long golden hair to build sails for a Sun-Ship. The construction of the sun and the moon was very important as it now played as the light source of Valar. Vana is responsible to keep the youth in Valar but because of her love toward nature and her appreciation to what is given to her she was also involved in the creation to the replacement of what was taken from her. This also shows a great defeat toward Melkor who’s purpose in destroying the trees was for there to not be any light source in Valar. This however like Vana showed us can be defeated by a love that produced fruits to later create that love but in a different form. Showing us that nothing can be killed by a man who doesn’t know what love is and is destroying out of jealously due to what he doesn’t have. I love the idea of her gardens filled with golden flowers and her long golden hair as well because it brings the bond of her with the Gold Tree Laurelin stronger. Representing a value, gold by itself reflects great value but in this case, it represents great friendship as well as a life changing light source defeating a darkness that is put upon Valar because of jealously.
